Extracapsular silicone implant rupture. The capsule is the layer of fibrous tissue generated by the breast in response to the implant, which acts as a foreign body. The outer layer of the implant which contains its contents is referred to as the "envelope." When the silicone extends beyond the capsule as in this case, this is extracapsular rupture.
